Notre Dame High School’s state championship boys track team was honored for its achievement recently at the state capitol in Sacramento, where they were presented with a proclamation honoring their achievement. The Knights’ Division I title is the first state championship in the Sherman Oaks school’s athletic history. They were led by Khalfani Mohammed, who won individual titles in the 100 meters (10.52 seconds) and 200 meters (21.15 seconds), and the 4x100 relay team of Nick Holland, Koa Farmer, Eric McDaniels and Mohammed which won first place (41.122 seconds, .002 ahead of second place). McDaniel also took third in the 100 meters (10.67 seconds).Serra High School of Gardena placed second in the boys division with 32 points (to Notre Dame’s 36), as Adoree Jackson won the boys long jump at 25 feet 5 inches, and Lloyd Sicard won the 110 meter hurdles (14.09). Damien’s Jarrett Gonzales won the 300 hurdles (37.30).The Serra girls won their first state championship in the meet held at Buchanan High School in Clovis. Serra’s girls scored 60 points, far ahead of El Camino of Oceanside (36).Alexis Faulknor led the way anchoring the 4x100 relay team (45.92) to victory and winning the long jump at 20 feet 3 inches, while finishing second in the individual 100 and 200 meter events. Renetia James, a member of the winning relay team, won the 400 in a state-best 53.98 and anchored the winning 4x400 relay team.{gallery width=100 height=100}gallery/2012/0622/track/{/gallery}
