The new, state-of-the-art Marian Regional Medical Center officially opened May 22.Although a formal blessing and dedication was held March 7, the actual opening was delayed pending final state approval of the $218 million, 235,000-square-foot, 191-bed facility which doubles the size of the former hospital located next door.

For more than two years, MRMC’s Patient Move Team worked to systematically prepare, organize and execute the new hospital patient move process. Just as patients were moved from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hospital, Marian’s predecessor, to Marian Hospital in 1967, the goal of the Patient Move Team was to move patients into the new hospital --- and to their new private patient rooms, all without missing a meal.

A nurse accompanied each patient before, during and after the move along with other hospital team members. The existing Emergency Department remained open throughout the night on May 21 and the early morning hours on May 22, when the new Marian began accepting patients.

Marian Regional Medical Center is a member of Dignity Health (formerly Catholic Healthcare West) which also includes Arroyo Grande Community Hospital and French Hospital Medical Center.
