This month the Lucille Rader Education Foundation announced the three winners of the 2016 scholarship competition, awarded to student athletes who have demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding character.
Savannah Cragin, a senior at St. Monica High School in Santa Monica, received a $40,000 scholarship to attend the University of California, Berkeley. Peyton Lancaster, a senior at Marymount, will also receive a $40,000 scholarship to attend Boston University. Sara George, a senior at Bishop Amat Memorial High School, will receive a $5,000 scholarship to attend Bard College.
“Congratulations to the winners and all the exceptional young women who applied for this competitive scholarship,” Alvin Lamarre, president of the foundation, said in a press release.
Lucille Rader, the scholarship founder, passed away last year. A Catholic educator for 57 years, Rader instituted the scholarship program to allow young women from schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to attend college.
The scholarship recipients are selected based on a number of factors, including an application essay, high school transcripts, athletic participation and financial need.
