‘Human Trafficking: The Child’ set March 10 at MSMCThe Mount St. Mary’s College Doheny campus in Los Angeles will host a symposium, “Human Trafficking: The Child Slave,” on March 10, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
The symposium is sponsored by the Southern California Partners for Global Justice, a consortium of 15 communities of women religious, along with the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking, and the Office of Justice and Peace for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The day will include presentations by people who were subject to trafficking as children, a speaker from the State Department, a film, and a dialogue for action. Cost is $15. ‘Sacred Love’ Interfaith Symposium scheduled March 18“Sacred Love: Exploring the Song of Songs,” the ninth annual Interfaith Symposium of Theology, Art and Music, will be held March 18 at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church.
The Office of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs, along with the Jewish Music Commission of Los Angeles and Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, are cosponsors of the symposium which will begin at 2 p.m., followed by a concert at 3:30 p.m.
The symposium will be moderated by Rabbi Edward Feinstein, with panelists including Mr. Jeremy Glatstein, Rabbi Harold M. Schulweis, the Right Rev. Alexei Smith (ecumenical and interfaith officer for the archdiocese), Dr. Nick Strimple and Rev. Dr. David Worth.
The choral and instrumental concert that will follow will feature the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Chancel Choir, the Choral Society of Southern California, Zimriyah Chorale, instrumentalists, and choral soloists. Both of these events are free and open to the public.

Huffington Ecumenical Institute at LMU set March 16-17The Huffington Ecumenical Institute, in collaboration with the Henry Luce Foundation, will host its third annual symposium on March 16 and 17 (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) at Loyola Marymount University’s Ahmanson Auditorium (Room 1000 of University Hall.
This year’s topic is “Pan-Orthodoxy in North America: Towards a Local Church.” Orthodoxy in America is a mosaic of historical circumstances and struggles for self-identity, in addition to ethnic foods and festivals, incense, chants, and icons.
