Members of Immaculate Heart High School’s new cooking club recently served healthy smoothies and shakes to their classmates in honor of Childhood Nutrition Day. The students prepared both chocolate-banana shakes and kale, orange, apple and cucumber smoothies.

Childhood Nutrition Day is an annual October event staged by the American Culinary Federation’s Chef & Child Foundation as a way to foster and promote awareness of proper nutrition.

The day before the event, Chef Kim Larson guided the cooking club members in the planning and preparation of simple, yet nutritious recipes that the students could make at home for their families.

After chopping vegetables and fruit for blending and measuring out ingredients, the students served the smoothies to their classmates for free.

Immaculate Heart is a college preparatory school in Hollywood. For more information about the school, please visit immaculateheart.org.
