The annual Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) awards banquet, held at Dodger Stadium in June, saw the recognition of several San Pedro Region schools as honored recipients.Beatitudes of Our Lord, La Mirada, earned championships in Cross Country, Golf and Flag Football; American Martyrs of Manhattan Beach won the Girls Volleyball title; Holy Trinity of San Pedro won in Girls Soccer; and Our Lady of Perpetual Help of Downey won the Cheer title.American Martyrs also earned the CYO Directors Cup for Overall Athletic Achievement, and Beatitudes earned the South Division honor.Other CYO Champions for 2012-13 included Our Lady Help of Christians in Los Angeles (Girls and Boys Basketball and the East Division Directors Cup); Corpus Christi of Pacific Palisades (Bowling and Boys Volleyball); Sacred Heart of Covina (Softball); St. Turibius of Los Angeles (Boys Soccer); Assumption BVM of Pasadena (Boys Track & Field); St. Rita of Sierra Madre (Girls Track & Field); and Holy Family of South Pasadena (North Division Directors Cup). Individual honors were presented to Sean Stephen and Daniel Scott of Holy Family (South Pasadena), Male Athletes of the Year; Becca Ramirez of Nativity (Torrance), Female Athlete of the Year; and Bert Triggs of Sacred Heart (Covina), Coach of the Year.For information on Catholic Youth Organization, Los Angeles, contact James McGoldrick, director, at (213) 251-3562 or [email protected], or visit www.cyola.org.
