Community members and civic leaders of all faiths are invited to join the Catholic community in Santa Monica for “Healing Our City,” a day of healing and peace at St. Monica Church on June 7, the date that marks the one-year anniversary of the tragic shooting that occurred in Santa Monica in 2013.

“All are welcome to join us as we reflect on lives lost, unite around a common goal of peace, and act for positive change,” said Delis Alejandro, pastoral associate. The morning will include a Catholic Mass at 8 a.m. and an interfaith prayer service at 9:15 a.m. followed by a reception and a call to action for gun violence prevention.

On June 7, 2013, a shooting spree resulted in the death of six people with four others wounded. Much of the shooting took place near and on the campus of Santa Monica College before the shooter was killed by police officers in a gunfire exchange.

The event is sponsored by the Catholic Parishes of the City of Santa of Monica, a tri-parish collaboration which includes St. Monica Catholic Community, St. Clement Catholic Church, and St. Anne Catholic Church and Shrine.

St. Monica Church is located at 725 California Ave., Santa Monica. For information, contact Delis Alejandro, (310) 566-1530 or visit www.smtriparish.org.
