St. John Baptist de la Salle Church in Granada Hills will host an afternoon of prayer for those celebrating the Rite of Election.

Adult catechumens will join with their godparents and those preparing for Confirmation and First Communion to pray in preparation for their reception into the Church at the Easter Vigil. The prayer event will take place on Feb. 6 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Rite of Election is one of the last steps in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), an education program for those entering into the Catholic Church.

At this rite, sponsors and catechists will provide testimony of the catechumen’s intention and the catechumens will confirm their intention to join the Church. In response, the Church will make its “election” of these catechumens to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Auxiliary Bishop Msgr. Joseph V. Brennan will lead the prayer service. Refreshments will be served.

Registration is $10 per person and ends Jan. 11. To register or for more information, please contact Sandy Cole at (818) 368-1514 or [email protected].
