Earlier this year the adult choir at St. Bruno Church in Whittier accepted a prestigious invitation: to be the first Catholic parish choir in the U.S. to produce a spiritual music CD through International Liturgy Publications of Nashville.

Under the direction of Beth Ann Martinez, the 22-member St. Bruno choir is made up of students, teachers, retirees, a municipal judge, a music therapist, and even some great-grandparents. According to Bob Fremgen, a long-time member of the choir, some are professionally trained singers and others are dedicated parishioners, but they all have one thing in common: they sing from the heart.

The title of the newly-completed CD — “Come to the Lord” — is the name of one of the hymns on the CD, which written by Martinez after she encountered a young man sobbing in deep despair while curled up in one of the church pews.

“It has been said that music is a universal language,” said Fremgen. “We are proud to have been so privileged to add our voices, for the world to hear these songs of hope and praise to the Lord.”

The CD “Come to the Lord” may be purchased for $15 through the St. Bruno Music Ministry office: (562) 947-5637, ext. 220.
