Nearly 100 women and men religious celebrating significant milestone jubilees in 2014 were honored Jan. 26 at the annual Mass for Religious Jubilarians celebrated at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
Leading the list were two jubilarians marking 80 years of professed religious life: Sister of Notre Dame Mary Anita Hornack, 100 years old this year, and Carmelite Sister of the Most Sacred Heart Patrocino Gonzales, 95. They and their fellow honored religious were warmly acknowledged by friends and family in attendance.
“I know I am speaking for everyone in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles when I say, thank you for your life, for your vocation,” said Archbishop José Gomez who presided at the Mass. “Your faith inspires us all, through your prayer, your charity, your love for the poor and sick. Thank you for all you are and thank you for all you are doing.”
In addition to the jubilarians, several religious orders and communities were recognized on their milestones of service. Among them: Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Agnes Church, 100 years; the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, 90; the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul (at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal School), 60; the Poor Clare Missionary Sisters, 60; the Servants of Mary, Ministers to the Sick in Newbury Park, 50; the Sisters of Charity of Rolling Hills, 50; and the Missionaries of Charity, 25.
