Greater Los Angeles faith communities from nearly every faith tradition are helping build four new homes in Lynwood September 11-13. This is part of a national Habitat interfaith initiative.
Approximately 30 volunteers will build each day representing the Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islamic, Jewish, Sikh, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian and other faith traditions.
Special volunteers include Milia Islam Majeed, South Coast Interfaith Council, and Father Alexei Smith, Archdiocese of Los Angeles. More than 150 Catholics have signed up to join the effort in Lynwood.
On Sept. 11, a day when the nation remembered those lost 13 years ago, organizers saw the build as an inspiration. Diverse faith and spiritual traditions came together “to build hope and homes for families in need,” according to a press release.
This is the first time Habitat for Humanity has launched a nationwide interfaith initiative as part of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Habitat affiliates across the country including Los Angeles, Denver, Atlanta, and Oakland hosted interfaith events.
