Holy Name of Jesus School will celebrate those who have worked to make a difference in the inner city of Los Angeles by hosting a fundraiser from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 26 at The Proud Bird.

All proceeds for the event will directly support the school, which has spent more than 90 years working for better educational opportunities for the children of South Los Angeles.

Holy Name’s goal is “to successfully develop the talents, character and intellectual potential of over 200 at-risk students each year in our South Los Angeles community, paving a pathway out of poverty,” according to the school’s press release.

Guest speakers for the event include Jesuit Father Greg Boyle, founder and director of Homeboy Industries, Reverend Andy Bales, CEO of the Union Rescue Mission, and Reverend Dr. Cecil “Chip” Murray, founding pastor of First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME).

The Proud Bird is located at 11022 Aviation Blvd., Los Angeles. To make a tax-deductible donation or to register for the event, please visit hnojla.org or call Deacon Jim Carper at (323) 731-1830.
