A group of high school students gathered for a 5-day training course in liturgical music, ministry and the arts at the Chalon Campus of Mount St. Mary’s University from June 29 to July 3.

The Liturgical Arts Ministry Project of Southern California launched the summer camp as their latest initiative to allow teenagers to develop their talents in order to benefit their community.

Students had the chance to learn about serving as sacristans, acolytes, lectors, artists and hospitality ministers. A total of 44 students participated in the program, with some students arriving from as far away as Sioux City, Iowa.

The summer camp culminated in a Liturgical Arts Festival, a performance given by the students with parents, family and friends participating as audience members.

Students were impressed with what they could learn in such a short time, with one student saying, “I could never have dreamed what I learned from you. You gave me such powerful insight with your generosity and kindness. You had confidence in me in ways I didn’t even have in myself. I hope I can make you proud.”
