The William H. Hannon Foundation has provided $882,500 in grants and pledges during the first quarter of 2014 to ten Catholic schools and organizations in Southern California.
Grant recipients include the Catholic Textbook Project, an organization which is producing a 12-volume series of history/social studies textbooks and supporting materials specifically for Catholic schools and students.
Also receiving awards were several Catholic high schools including Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Canada Flintridge, Louisville High School in Woodland Hills, Loyola High School in Los Angeles, Notre Dame Academy in West Los Angeles, and Aquinas High School in San Bernardino. The Ignatian Volunteer Corps, Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles also received foundation grants.
The foundation’s contributions will help fund scholarships, the dormitory renovation at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, technology upgrades on school campuses, the publication of Catholic textbooks in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to the placement and support of volunteers in Catholic schools.
“My late uncle, our foundation’s founder, was a devout Catholic and greatly benefited from his Catholic high school and college education,” said Kathy Hannon Aikenhead, president of the William H. Hannon Foundation. “We carry on his focus of helping Catholic schools and organizations throughout the areas where he lived and worked. His Catholic faith was central to his life and our Board of Directors understands this and keeps true to the founding principles of his foundation.
