The Archdiocese of Los Angeles will celebrate the closing of the Jubilee Year of Consecrated Life with a Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles on Jan. 31 at 3:30 p.m.

“The Jubilee affords us an opportunity for gratitude to these consecrated men and women for their years of service,” said Sister Cecilia Canales, OP, vicar for women religious for the archdiocese. “The consecrated religious don’t do it for the gratitude, but it's important that the Church recognizes their service to the Church.”

Auxiliary Bishop Joseph V. Brennan will preside at the Mass honoring the service of consecrated individuals celebrating up to 75 years of commitment to the Church. The religious communities serving in the archdiocese — 129 communities of women and 63 communities of men — will also be honored.

Notable anniversaries include Sister Hermine Jaschco, SDSH, who will celebrate 75 years of service to the archdiocese; the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, which will celebrate 200 years of service in Los Angeles; and the Religious Sisters of Charity, which will celebrate 125 years of service.

In 2013, Pope Francis declared that a Year of Consecrated Life be celebrated throughout the world from Nov. 29, 2014, through Feb. 2, 2016, the World Day of Consecrated Life.

“We were invited by the pope to remember the past with gratitude, to live the present with passion, and to embrace the future with hope,” said Sister Cecilia. “For consecrated persons, it’s been a year of renewal. It’s given the Church an opportunity to look at the gift of consecrated life and to be grateful for it.”

The cathedral is located at 555 W. Temple St. in Downtown Los Angeles. Parking is available on site.
