American Martyrs of Manhattan Beach led the Catholic Youth Organization Directors Cup standings for the fall sports season, based on overall achievement in five competitive sports.

After competition in golf, cross country, bowling, girls volleyball and boys’ flag football, American Martyrs compiled 16.5 points, earning points in all five activities including first place in bowling.

Second was Holy Family of South Pasadena, with 15 points earned on the strength of success in volleyball and football. Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Pasadena (11 points) and St. Rita of Sierra Madre (9 points) --- like Holy Family, members of the East Foothill Conference in the CYO’s North Region --- placed third and fourth in the fall.

Rounding out the top 10 were Beatitudes of Our Lord, La Mirada, and Corpus Christi, Pacific Palisades, tied for fifth with 8 points each; Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Montebello, and St. James, Redondo Beach, tied for seventh with 7 points each; and St. Philip the Apostle, Pasadena, and St. Anastasia, Westchester, tied for ninth at 6.5 points each.

Points are accumulated based on achievement in conference events (volleyball and football), where playoff points can be earned up to a maximum of 8; competition events (golf and bowling), with a maximum value of 1.5; and track and field events (cross country), with a maximum value of 4.

In addition to the overall CYO Directors Cup standings, CYO also recognizes school rankings by region. Regional leaders for the fall:

---North Region: Holy Family of South Pasadena; Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Pasadena; St. Rita of Sierra Madre; St. Philip the Apostle, Pasadena; St. Francis de Sales, Sherman Oaks.

---South Region: Beatitudes of Our Lord, La Mirada; St. Linus, Norwalk; St. Joseph, Long Beach; St. Bruno, Whittier.

---East Region: Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Montebello; Our Lady of Lourdes, East L.A.; St. Ignatius, Highland Park; Sacred Heart, Covina; St. Benedict, Montebello; St. Louise de Marillac, Covina.

---West Region: American Martyrs, Manhattan Beach; Corpus Christi, Pacific Palisades; St. James, Redondo Beach; St. Anastasia, Westchester; St. Paul the Apostle, Westwood; St. Monica, Santa Monica; Holy Trinity, San Pedro.

There were 92 schools which earned at least one point in CYO fall sports. Other sports on the CYO calendar include boys and girls basketball and soccer, softball, boys volleyball, track and field and cheer/dance/song.
